Online Locator Training

Electro-Magnetic (EM) Utility Locators

If the utility line being located is made of metal, conventional EM utility locators can locate to depths approaching 20 feet. EM locators with integrated magnetometers are used to locate down to 50 feet. Field reports are created and data exports can be generated.

Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR)

A scan using GPR can reveal metallic and non-metallic objects buried underground. Non-destructive testing (NDT) using GPR can be used without site restrictions and causes no harmful interference. Buried pipes, cables, tanks, voids, trench lines, soil layers and more may be seen with a GPR utility cart as deep as 15 feet or more. Field reports and data can be exported with survey-grade coordinates for use in post-processing 3D software, mapping software, GIS software, Geolantis.360 and Google Earth.

Acoustic Pipe Locator (APL)

The SENSIT acoustic pipe locator (APL) is used to scan an area to find non-metallic and metallic pipes, plastic pipes, asbestos-cement pipes and more, down to 21 feet. Using the science of acoustic impedance mis-match, the APL works in all soil types and moisture contents, including clay soils, wet soils and salty soils.

SPAR 300 Utility Surveying & Mapping

The Optimal Ranging/ VIVAX SPAR models the magnetic field and is used in conjunction with Trimble GPS RTK, or total station to accurately locate and map buried metallic utilities in a single pass. In hard to locate areas, the SPAR can accurately locate and map buried utilities within a 10 foot radius of the target facility. Dual SPAR can accurately locate and map buried pipes at depths as great as 50 feet.

RTK Utility Mapping

Both the Vivax vLoc3 RTK-Pro and Radio-Detection RD8200SG locator wands have an integrated survey-grade GPS antenna and are used to accurately locate and map buried utilities in a single pass, at depths approaching 20 feet. Mapping information is stored in the cloud and may be viewed on a computer, tablet or smartphone. Survey-grade data can be exported for use in any mapping software, GIS, Geolantis.360 and Google Earth.
